Sales tax in Canada
Foreign sellers of digital subscriptions registered under Canada’s simplified GST/HST system must charge GST/HST since Jul 1, 2021; British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Quebec also apply provincial tax to digital services. What you’re actually charged depends on the vendor’s registration, so the tax here is an estimate. If you’re billed in USD, your card may add a foreign-exchange fee.
- Alberta: 5% GST
- British Columbia: 12% GST + PST. BC PST applies to software and digital services, including from foreign sellers.
- Manitoba: 12% GST + RST. Manitoba RST applies to digital and streaming services since 2021-12-01.
